| A Plan to End Child Poverty

In 1999, Britain's government made a commitment to eliminate child poverty by the year 2020. After seven years, it has helped 700,000 children and their families out of poverty. This is a 17 percent reduction; less than the goal of 25 percent but still significant. In the US, however, there is no such federal commitment and so even though we are told our economy has grown, the number of children in our coummunities who are growing up in poverty has increased. Robert Borosage, of The Campaign for America's Future, writes an interesting article asking whether we can expect real reform from Ohio Rep. John Boehner. Boehner was elected House Majority Leader to replace Tom Delay, who is undergoing investigation for several improprieties.
