When thousands of people donate no more than $100 per person per election, we can build a campaign without money from special interests. _______________________ But it's about more than money. We need your energy and your enthusiasm, too. Sign up to volunteer on Jim Hansen's campaign for Congress.

JIM HANSEN, IDAHO NATIVE AND FORMER STATE LEGISLATOR,
FILES FOR SECOND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT SEAT
Boise -- With
petitions signed by more than 500 registered voters, Jim Hansen filed
today to run for the state’s Second Congressional District seat.
Hansen, a former three term state representative, decided to return to
public service because “Idahoans are demanding a change.” Hansen, an
Idaho native says, “ People are frustrated with special interests and
want to hold Congress accountable.”
Family and friends joined
Hansen as he turned in more than 80 petitions with names of voters
across the district. Hansen collected signatures instead of paying a
filing fee as part of his commitment to a grassroots campaign.
According to Hansen, “We believe elections should be about what is good
and hopeful about being an American. This grassroots campaign puts
Idaho’s communities before big-money interests.”
To demonstrate
his seriousness about breaking the link between special interest money
and public elections, Hansen is limiting contributions to his campaign
to one hundred dollars per person per election. He is not taking any
money from political action committees (PACs). Hansen says, “Congress
must live up to the highest standards of integrity. The public’s
interests should come first.”
Hansen has been traveling the
district for several weeks, listening to Idahoans. He is planning
events throughout the region in the coming weeks.
Hansen is no
stranger to Idaho’s Second Congressional District. His family has lived
and worked in Idaho for four generations. Hansen, 46, was born in Idaho
Falls and attended law school at the University of Idaho. He
represented southeast Boise in the state legislature from 1988-1994. In
1995, Hansen became the founding director of United Vision for Idaho, a
coalition of organizations working to empower participation in
democracy. He built this small business with the help of many others
who shared his vision. Hansen is married to Joan Cartan-Hansen and has
two children.
