When thousands of people donate no more than $100 per person per election, we can build a campaign without money from special interests. _______________________ But it's about more than money. We need your energy and your enthusiasm, too. Sign up to volunteer on Jim Hansen's campaign for Congress.

An organization dedicated to more open government is praising Jim Hansen, a candidate for Idaho’s 2nd District seat in Congress, for agreeing to place his official schedule on the Internet as a member of Congress. “Jim Hansen is a national leader in openness and accountability,” said Zephyr Teachout, national director for the non-partisan Sunlight Network. “By opening his schedule to the public, Jim Hansen is showing that he is willing to use transparency to strengthen democracy.” When the public knows what their representative does all day, they can hold their representative accountable, Teachout said. Hansen’s opponent, four-term incumbent Mike Simpson, has ignored offers to sign the same agreement, the organization said. So far, nearly 70 candidates for Congress have signed it. The agreement says, in part: “I believe citizens have a right to know what their Member of Congress does every day. Starting with the next Congress, I promise to publish my daily official work schedule on the Internet, within 24 hours of the end of every work day. I will include all matters relating to my role as a Member of Congress. … Events will be listed whether Congress is in session or not, and whether I am in Washington, traveling or in my district.” For more information, check out the Sunlight Network’s Punch Clock Campaign at http://www.sunlightnetwork.com/punchclock ###
