When thousands of people donate no more than $100 per person per election, we can build a campaign without money from special interests. _______________________ But it's about more than money. We need your energy and your enthusiasm, too. Sign up to volunteer on Jim Hansen's campaign for Congress.

Congressional candidate Jim Hansen is far ahead of his opponent in the number of Idahoans contributing to his grassroots campaign for Idaho’s 2nd District Congress seat. In the reporting period May 4 to June 30 required by the Federal Election Commission, 228 individuals gave $17,633 to Hansen’s campaign. Of those contributors, 91 percent are from Idaho. That brings the total of individual contributors in the 2005-2006 election cycle to 689, nearly seven times the number of individuals contributing to four-term incumbent Rep. Mike Simpson. Hansen set a $100 limit on campaign donations per person to show his commitment to reforming the way business is conducted in Washington, D.C. He does not accept contributions from corporations or political action committees (organizations formed to advance special interests). “My campaign reflects my deep conviction that elected officials should be accountable to the people they represent, not big-money special interests,” Hansen said. “It’s the only way we can restore trust and accountability in Congress.” Simpson’s support is overwhelmingly from PACs and out-of-state individuals, according to the Federal Election Commission report. PACs account for 77 percent of Simpson’s total war chest. The FEC does not report individual contributions of $200 or less. Of Simpson’s donors giving more than $200, 74 percent are from outside Idaho, with about half coming from the Washington, D.C., area.
