When thousands of people donate no more than $100 per person per election, we can build a campaign without money from special interests.

This campaign is based on the traditional vision of representative democracy where people matter more than money
After a lot of prayer and careful evaluation we decided as a family that a campaign like this needs to happen. People all over Idaho have called, written, sent e-mails or come up to me to encourage me to be a candidate, not to run “against” someone but to run for a traditional vision of representative democracy: where people matter more than money.

The influence of private money in public elections has concerned me for many years. There are many good people in our communities who offer their time and talents for public service but are frustrated to discover that to run for some public offices like Congress, they must become masters of asking for money from the same interests who are asking them for changes in the law. The line between private interest and public responsibility is so blurred now that it is not surprising that some folks in the system think they can abuse it and get away with it.

I retired from the legislature after six years and made it clear that if I were to be a candidate for public office again I would not run a campaign built on huge private interest campaign contributions. Elites in both major parties say it cannot be done. This year, however, a lot more people are demanding that something more than window dressing needs to happen. The people deserve to have an election system that is accountable to them.
Will you join us in making it happen? Together, we can do it.
