When thousands of people donate no more than $100 per person per election, we can build a campaign without money from special interests.

I attended a rally at the Idaho Statehous on Cesar Chavez's birthday - Friday, March 31. Over 500 people were there. Sadly, the press largely ignored the event. Earlier in the session, a committee in the legislature refused to approve a bill to protect farmworkers from exposure to dangerous chemicals. Also, earlier in the year, the US Congress (the House) passed a restrictive immigration bill and the US Senate is considering a better, but still flawed bill. I am a decendant of immigrants (who were unwanted in most of the US when they arrived because of their faith). I am learning a lot about the lives, the struggles, the hopes of people who have immigrated or want to immigrate to the US. It would be good to read your perspectives.

It is well agreed upon that the US immigration system is broken yet, Congress has failed to take any real action to resolve our flawed policies. Instead of grand-standing and schpealling rhetoric Congress needs to define the problems in an honest way that will allow our public debating to move toward real solutions.

Most natural born, US citizens are unaware of how the immigration system works. Currently, there is no real path to citizenship in the United States without being here first. Then, it becomes a long and expensive process that can easily take up to five years and cost $15,000.

There is a reason 11 million undocumented immigrants are in the US, we need their labor and they're willing to take the risks to get the jobs. In twenty years our demand for labor in the US will be much higher then our own population can fill. We need comprehensive immigration reform that will create a real pathway to citizenship today so we can prepare for the future.
